Ray Comfort
Ray Comfort is a thoroughgoing New Evangelical, as is obvious by his
associations. Following is from his web site: “Ray Comfort’s ministry has been
commended by Franklin Graham, Josh McDowell, D. James Kennedy, Bill Gothard,
David Wilkerson, Jerry Falwell, George Barna, Ted Haggard and many other
Christian leaders. He has written for Billy Graham’s Decision magazine
and Bill Bright’s Worldwide Challenge. He has also spoken in more than
750 churches from almost every denomination.” As with any New Evangelical, much
that he says will be scriptural and helpful. His warnings about getting mere
“decisions” and his approach of using the Ten Commandments to bring a sinner to
repentance are excellent. That is the purpose of the Law (Rom. 3:19; Gal. 3:24).
This is what we see in the ministry of Christ (i.e., the Sermon on the Mount)
and the apostles (i.e., the book of Romans, where almost 3 chapters are devoted
to exposing sin before the grace of God in Christ is preached). The great error
of New Evangelicalism is not the error that is preached but the truth that is
neglected. Unlike Paul (Acts 20:27) they narrow their message down, neglecting
unpopular doctrines such as separation. Thus New Evangelicals are dangerous
because of what they leave out of their teaching and because of the ecumenical,
judge-not, stay positive philosophy that they promote. They will quote from
modernists and unbelievers uncritically and without warning. I believe it is
very dangerous to swim in New Evangelical waters.
Ray Comfort quote:
"What it is is a sad admission to the amount of confidence we have in the power
of our message and in the keeping power of God. If God has saved them, God will
keep them. If they are born of God, they will never die. If He's begun a good
work in them, He'll complete it to that Day. If He is the Author of their faith,
He will be the finisher of their faith. He is able to save to the uttermost them
that come to God by Him. He is able to keep them from falling and to present
them faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy. Jesus said
no one will pluck you from my Father's hand."
As stated in our summary, not every osas teacher holds to the five tenets of Calvinism. Many have loosely adopted their own twisted understanding of this false doctrine. Comfort likes to gloss over the 'eternal security' issue and give the impression that he is preaching a holiness, obedience doctrine instead. With this he appeals to a wide cross section of modern evangelicals, as is evident by his associations. Basically, like so many others of his elk, he has found a 'formula' that works and works well. Many church pastors today realize that something is drastically wrong with the 'user friendly' version of gospel promoted almost across the board. But at the same time they fail to recognize that teaming up with the EXACT same people who brought about this chaos (by teaching the doctrine of eternal security) will only make matters worse! You can't bring the Fox into the hen house and not expect him to do what comes natural. The devil always comes quoting scripture and promising life. From the Garden to the present day, his message remains the same....."You will surly NOT die!" Gen3:4, 'Go ahead and disobey God, your sins are covered, He will keep you no matter what!' The LIE never changes. YET millions are duped by these men and follow them blindly down the path to destruction.
"He became the author of eternal salvation to all who OBEY Him." Heb 5:9
