The Law of Sin & Death
Does the Bible teach the following:
1) The law has been abolished in Christ, Rom3:31
2) There is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus, Rom8:1
3) It's Normal to sin everyday in thought, word and deed, Gal6:7-20
Or Does it Teach:
1) To be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life & peace, Rom8:6
2) If you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live, Rom8:13
3) Therefore there is no condemnation for those in Christ who do NOT walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. Rom8:1
According to scripture the statement from Rom8:2 could conclude, "For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me Free from the law of sin & death, in order for me to PURSUE godliness, holiness & righteousness with Steadfast endurance! (Rom2:7-10, read it yourself)
The Corruption, Nature & Penalty of sin are unknown to the modern church. Professing Christians are convinced that Grace will make up for their lack of obedience and sweep their sins under the rug whether they repent of them or not! The corrupting nature of sin that hardens the heart against God is not considered dangerous because all threat of retribution is removed once a person has had a moment of true faith in Christ. Therefore the penalty of hell is removed forever if a person 'believes' on Christ. But this is pure fiction. The Bible DOES NOT teach that a person can sin with impunity after they have received Christ. The righteous decrees of God against sin are still in effect & here's why:
1) The Moral law of God was fulfilled by Christ, not abolished, Matt5:17-20, Rom3:31
2) The Purpose of the Commandant is a Pure Heart & Good Conscience toward God! 1Tim1:5
3) You will Reap what you Sow, Gal6:7-10
The possibility of hell is ever present to the Christian, if he should wonder off into sin and begin following satan again, 1Tim5:15. To ignore this real danger and fail to warn new converts of the deceitfulness of sin is the greatest injustice anyone could perpetrate on the souls of men. Recent converts to Christ should immediately be exhorted to 'Continue in the faith' with steadfast endurance! (Just as they were in Acts2:46,11:23, 14:22) They should be warned of the common pitfalls & snares of satan and shown by scripture that many saints before them have become shipwrecked & overthrown by false doctrine. 1Tim1:19-20, 2Tim2:18 They should be constantly exhorted to obey from the heart that form of doctrine by which they were delivered from sin, Rom6:16-23 and told to stand daily on Rom6:11
To abolish the Moral Law of God is to remove the Standard by which Christ can Judge the world. Thus the 'deeds of faith' would be to no purpose & passages such as Rom2:7-10 would have no meaning. The Curse of the law has been removed in Christ Gal3:13, Col2:14. The Christian is no longer under the ceremonial & sacrificial requirements of the Old Testament, but the Righteous Decrees of God against sin are STILL in effect! (Ezk18:23-32) That's why you 'Reap what you Sow'. Otherwise the warnings are to no effect.
Therefore Scripture teaches the following:
1) Grace raised the standard not lowered it! Matt5:27-30, Heb10:26-31
2) You WILL be judged according to your deeds done in Faith! Rom2:7-10, Js2:22, 2Thes1:8
3) You MUST endure with steadfast obedience to the end. Matt10:22, Col1:22-23
Thus because the Law is fulfilled in Faith, Rom3:31, The Moral precepts of God are then Written on our hearts and minds, Heb8:10-12, Grace raises the standard of holiness, because it provides POWER over sin! Matt5:27-20, Titus2:11-14. We are set free from the corrupting influence of sin, Rom6:11-14 and the Holy Judgments of God Stand Firm, 2Tim2:15.
Grace DOES NOT have to make up for our lack of Obedience to the faith, Rom6:16-18, 16:26, 1Pet1:22, because the Word of God does the Work of redemption as we obey it! 1Thes2:13
The Apostle Paul considered himself under the righteous decrees of God in Acts20:26, when he proclaimed himself innocent of the blood of all men, because he had not ceased to warn the righteous & the wicked, night & day about the perils of sin. He understood that Grace does not magically removed anyone from the warnings & decrees of God. Otherwise the bible doesn't make sense and Ezekiel chapter's 3, 18 & 33 must be removed from scripture.
The Answer of a Good Conscience toward God!
1Tim1:5 states: "Now the purpose of the commandant is love from a PURE heart, from a good conscience and from sincere faith." (Since the commandant is to believe on Christ, the whole purpose is stated here! To produce purity of heart, sincere faith & a good conscience!)
The Gospel has provided a way by which man can Serve God in genuine Purity of heart and a good conscience. Not constantly defiled by sin. Paul said he served God with a Pure Conscience, 2Tim1:3, Acts24:16, In light of the coming Judgment, he kept himself Pure, 1Tim5:22, and stood ready to give account for the hope that was in him!
Here's what Peter had to say on this issue, "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear, having a GOOD CONSCIENCE, that when they defame you as evil doers, those who revile your GOOD conduct in Christ may be ashamed." 1Pet3:15-16
How could any of this mean that since you have the 'imputed righteousness' of Christ, (Rom4:3) your conscience is clear before God, even while you are engaged in sin? It's reverse reasoning that these scriptures would talk about Purity, good conduct & a Clear Conscience if the normal Christian experience is to sin everyday in thought, word & deed.
The WHOLE Purpose, as stated in the passage, is; Love, Purity, Faith & a good conscience! If your conscience isn't clear before God, it's because your heart hasn't been made PURE by faith! NOT because you misunderstand the doctrine of 'eternal security.' People who reject a good conscience 'shipwreck' their faith! 1Tim1:19 & Stray from God, 1Tim1:6. And if our heart condemns us, 1John3:20, God is greater than our heart & knows all things, (meaning He also condemns us, to NOT do so would be to deny Himself!) But if your heart is NOT full of guilt & self condemnation, you have Confidence toward God! 1Jh3:21 This simple truth has been twisted to the destruction of many by teachers who say you can deny Christ & He WON'T deny you!
This is where the real danger lurks:
Because you can sooth a convicted heart with false assurances until the Conscience is seared with a hot iron! 1Tim4:1-3 And this is exactly what's being done by the false teachers promising people liberty in Christ, while at the same time they are slaves to the corruption of sin! 2Pet2:18
The answer of a Good Conscience toward God is in the Scriptures, 1Pet3:21, Being crucified, buried and raised with Christ! Rom6:6, Gal5:24, 6:19. But there's more to consider.
The flesh lusts against the Spirit and the Spirit against the flesh, Gal5:17
The Battle lines are drawn! When a person Receives the implanted Word that is able to Save his soul, Js1:21, an intense spiritual warfare begins to take place, 2Cor10:5. The new convert must be made to understand that it is HIS responsibility before God to 'Lay hold' of the safeguards required to keep himself on the path of righteousness.
1) He must Crucify the flesh with its passions & desires, Gal5:24
The spiritual battlefield is littered with the corpses of would-be Christians. People who 'believed for a while', and fell by the wayside to the snares & temptations of satan. Many because they were given false assurance in sin & told that immoral behavior would not result in their spiritual death. But the works of the flesh became evident and over-turned their faith. The scriptures are clear as to who will & will not inherit the Kingdom of God. Gal5:16-26, 1Cor6:9-10, Rev21:8
2) He must RECKON himself dead indeed to sin & alive to God! Rom6:11
The consequences of not putting to death the deeds of the body by the Power of His Word are dire indeed, Heb2:1-3. The entire Sixth Chapter of Romans is written to instruct you how this process takes place. The Exceeding, great & precious promises of God stand firm, 2Pet1:4, When you OBEY from the heart, sin will no longer have dominion over you! Rom6:14-16
3) He must Put off the old man & Put on the New! Eph4:22
The old man grows corrupt according to deceitful lusts, but the New man is renewed in the spirit of his mind by PUTTING on Christ Jesus, who was created according to God in Righteousness and true holiness! If you have 'learned' Christ, Eph4:24, You will certainly become conformed to His image and likeness. If not, you will die & go to hell. This is what the Bible teaches.
God has every right to Judge you according to your DEEDS done in Faith, because it is His Word working in you as you Obey & Follow. 1Thes2:13, Rom1:5, 16:26, Js2:22-24 The Whole Gospel is summarized in the statement, "IF you love Me, Keep My Commandments!"
What does this mean to you?
1) That you can keep some & ignore others? That you can 'believe', but still 'lust' in your heart?
2) That you can profess His Name & then deny Him by your behavior?
3) That you can be 'saved', but remain in bondage to sin?
Why then Does Scripture say the following:
1) 1Pet1:17 "God who without partiality Judges according to each one's WORK, so conduct yourself throughout the time of your sojourn here with FEAR!"
2) Js2:24 "You see then that a man is Justified by WORKS & NOT by faith only."
3) Jh5:29 "At the Judgment those who have done GOOD, to the resurrection of life and those who have done evil to the resurrection of condemnation." (see also: Rev20:13-15)
4) Rom2:6-8 "God will render to each one ACCORDING to his DEEDS, eternal life to those who by Steadfast Endurance in doing good seek for glory honor & immortality, but to those who are self-seeking & do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation & wrath."
These passages have no place in the Doctrine of eternal security because they Plainly illustrate that a saved person MUST do 'good works' according to faith, to enter eternal life. That the 'Works of faith' & the 'Works of the law' are different according to scripture, is of no consequence to their darkened understanding of the Gospel. Eph2:8-9 says it's NOT of works & that's the end of it! Rom2:6-8 does not apply.
But the Law of Faith stands, Rom3:27
1) Works done to establish your own righteousness are DEAD works! Rom10:2-4 of no value
2) But Works done by Faith for the Glory & Honor of God are the Obedience that saves the soul! (See: Phil2:12-16, 2Pet1:10, Heb13:20-21, Col1:22-23, 1Pet1:7-9)
Therefore the Law of sin & death, as well as the Law of Faith are at work in those who believe. The flesh lusts against the Spirit & the Spirit against the flesh. God has provided a way through His Grace, by Faith that the flesh can be crucified and the spirit of man set free from the bondage of sin, IF he walks in Obedience to the WORD and stands daily on the Power of Christ. (See: Gal3:20-21, 5:24, Rom6:6,11, 16-18, 8:1-3, 6, 13, 1Pet4:1-2)
However, IF you reject Purity of heart & a good conscience toward God, and DON'T Put to death the deeds of the body, you WILL shipwreck your faith & wind up in hell at the judgment unless you repent for salvation's sake. (See 1Cor6:9-10, Gal5:19-21, Eph5:3-6)
Study the Scriptures! 2Tim2:15. This is ONE issue you definitely DON'T want to be wrong about. Procrastination could cost you everything.
